trnr vs TrainingPeaks
TrainingPeaks is the industry default for endurance coaching, and it earned that. But its pricing scales against you: every premium athlete you add costs $9/month on top of a base subscription. trnr takes the opposite approach — coaching is free, with unlimited athletes, and the platform includes things TrainingPeaks doesn't have at any price, like built-in video gait analysis and real in-app athlete messaging.

Where TrainingPeaks is stronger
A comparison you can trust has to cut both ways. Here's where TrainingPeaks genuinely beats us today:
- TrainingPeaks has 20+ years of ecosystem: WKO5, university partnerships, and integrations trnr doesn't match yet.
- Its cycling power analytics (PMC, advanced power-duration modeling) go deeper than trnr's training-load metrics.
- Its coach marketplace is much larger today — if you rely on TrainingPeaks for client acquisition, weigh that.
Frequently asked questions
Is trnr really free for coaches?
Yes. Coach accounts are free with unlimited athletes — roster, plan builder, calendar, chat, workout push, and gait analysis included. trnr makes money from athlete subscriptions and optional coach marketplace listings, not from charging coaches per seat.
How do I move my athletes over from TrainingPeaks?
Invite each athlete by email from your coach dashboard — they get a join link and you immediately see their synced activities, plan compliance, and form videos. Athletes connect Strava, Garmin, COROS, or other providers in a couple of clicks, so their training history flows in automatically.
Does trnr push structured workouts to watches?
Yes — trnr pushes structured workouts (and whole plans) to Garmin Connect and the COROS Training Hub, so your athletes' watches guide them through each interval.
Can my athletes keep using Strava?
Yes. trnr syncs from Strava (plus Garmin, COROS, Zwift, Wahoo, Polar, Suunto, and Apple Health). Athletes don't change anything about how they record — activities appear in your coach view automatically.
What does TrainingPeaks do that trnr doesn't?
Deeper cycling power analytics (PMC charts, the WKO5 desktop ecosystem) and a larger established coach marketplace. If your coaching depends on advanced power-duration modeling, TrainingPeaks is still ahead there — we'd rather tell you that than have you find out later.
What is the built-in gait analysis?
Athletes upload a short side-view phone clip. trnr runs pose estimation on every frame and grades posture, overstriding, vertical oscillation, hip drop, arm swing, knee mechanics, and foot strike — with corrective drills for anything below par. Bike fit analysis works the same way. As a coach you see every athlete's report and can annotate it.
How do I charge my athletes through trnr?
Connect Stripe from your coach dashboard, set a monthly price per athlete, and trnr handles the subscription billing. Your price goes to your Stripe account; trnr doesn't take a percentage of your coaching revenue.
Is there a catch — will trnr start charging coaches later?
Free coach accounts are the business model, not a promotion: coaches bring athletes, and some athletes choose paid trnr plans for higher usage limits. Charging coaches per athlete is exactly the model we built trnr to replace.
